i love this piece.....

Did you do anything today?

My husband came home today and saw me sitting on the couch, toddler on one knee, and another on the opposite knee.

I was trying to turn the pages of a book with one hand, while listening for the sound of the stove buzzer, which would indicate that tonight's porkchops were at the stage between "well-done" and "the dog gets tonight's entree".

My husband looked at me innocently, and asked,"So, did you do anything today?"

It's a good thing that most of my appendages were otherwise engaged, as I was unable to jump up and smack him.

Let me back up a bit, and explain what led me to this point in my life.

I was not always bordering on the brink of insanity. On the contrary, a mere three years ago, I had a good job, steady income, and a vehicle that could NOT seat a professional sports team, and me, comfortably.

I watched television shows that were not hosted by singing puppets. I went to bed later than nine o'clockat night. I preferred sex to sleeping in.

Now I have become one of them.

What happened?

The stick turned blue.

I have traded in my Victoria's Secrets lingerie for cotton briefs and a firm-support bra.

Goodbye, Metalica. Hello, Wheels on the Bus.

My idea of privacy is getting to use the bathroom without a 1 year old banging on the door, and the other spinning the toilet paper roll from my lap.

And I finally understand that the term "Stay At Home Mom" does not refer to a parent who no longer works outside the house, but rather to one who never seems to get out the front door.

So here I sit children in hand, wondering how to answer my beloved husband.

Did I do anything today?

Well, I think I did, although not much seems to have gotten accomplished. I shared breakfast with a handsome young man. Of course, the breakfast consisted of a bowl of porridge and leftover cookie crumbs. The handsome young man is about thirty four inches tall and only gets really excited at the sight of purple dinosaurs, toy trucks and french fries.

I got to take a relaxing stroll in the park. Ofcourse I was on the lookout for ducks and lizards, and had to stop to smell the dandelions along the way.

I successfully washed one load of laundry, moved the load that was in the washer into the dryer, and the dryer load into the basket. The load that was in the basket is now spread out on the bed, awaiting my bedtime decision to actually put the clothes away or merely move them to the top of the dresser.

I read two or three classics. Outloud. Of course, Dickens or Shakespeare cannot take credit for these works, as we have moved on to the works like Green Eggs and Ham and Goodnight Gorrilla. I don't think I will be making any trips to the Section of my local library anytime soon.

In between, I washed bottles, wiped highchairs, changed at least 6 diapers and had oatmeal flung at my head. I kissed away the owies and washed away the tears. I scolded, praised, hugged and tested my patience, all before noon.

Did I do anything today?

You bet.

I now understand what people mean when they say that parenthood is the hardest job they will ever have. In my LBD (life before diapers) I was able to keep my house clean, the laundry under control and even balance my check book on a regular basis.

I was once able to navigate urban streets while talking on the car phone, putting on make up and looking for a decent radio station, but now I can't get the wheels on my stroller to all go in the same direction.

I used to talk with my friends about current events, but now we discuss the merits of cloth versus disposable diapers. And when did I stop talking in sentences that had more than five words?

So in response to my husband's inquiry, yes, I did do something today. In fact, I am one step closer to one of Life's greatest accomplishments.

No, I did not cure AIDS or forge World Peace, but I did hold a miracle in my arms. Two, in fact.

My children are my great accomplishment, and the opportunity to raise them is my greatest challenge. I don't know if my children will grow up to be great leaders or world-class brain surgeons. Frankly, I don't care, as long as they grow up to be happy and fulfilled.

They are my greatest joys, even though I sometimes cry myself to sleep at night in frustration.

The point is, that today I got to watch my children take another step on the great journey of Life, and I even got to point out some of the sites along the way. As challenging as parenthood is, it is also equally rewarding, because we are using all our wisdom, our talent and skills to help guide a new person towards a happy life. A life created by me and my husband.

It is this person, these people, who in turn will use their gifts to create our future. So every nursery rhyme I recite, every swing I push, every little hand I hold is Something.

And I did it today.

game ka na ba?????

i enjoy being a SAHM though there are days that i am at my wits end because of Inigo's crying fits. but more often than not, i'm loving it. the only drawback of being one is losing the financial freedom you have for having a job that puts moola in your bank account every two weeks. right now, we are a single income household but GOD is good...we still eat 3x a day and can afford little luxuries (with proper budgeting). pero hanggang kailan ito? my bank account is slowly depleting :o(

i have been mulling over on going back to work to help Dell with the finances. and if i do decide to work, there will be a lot of adjustments like waking up extra early to ready Inigo for his daily trip to the sitter (dell's ex-wife), for him to learn how to feed from the bottle, and a million more concerns. gosh! it sounds mundane but with no extra help to do all these stuff, Dell and I (believe me) in some way or the other will have arguments, discussions or sarcastic hirits due to stress, UNFAIR division of labor or time MISmanagement.

but i NEED to go back to working to be able to provide more for Inigo and to our other children, to gain our purchasing power back and afford "MORE" vacations without worries.

on monday, i will know...i have an interview. and if i get the job ang tanong is....game na ba ako ulit to join the dog-eat-dog world of sales and marketing?

abangan ang susunod na kabanata.....

i've been tagged (again).....

thanks mickee!

How did you feel during those first few days after birth?
> It was very exhausting since I was CS and didn't have time to recuperate because I had to take care of Inigo. I need to breastfeed him every 2-3 hours so I hardly had time to catch up on sleep. I felt so drained but Dell was very supportive naman so kahit papaano, I made it through.

How were you emotionally?
> This is my second child so I was more prepared though I had some occasional bouts of post-partum depression. So whenever it starts to kick-in, I bawl my heart out to get it over and done with then after a while I feel better and then I indulge myself on vanilla ice cream.

Is there anything you wish people had told you about the postpartum period?
> I wish they told me that I would be very emotional at times and that I wouldn't be able to control the tears.

How long do you plan to breastfeed?
> As long as I can since I don't work yet. Besides, it saves us money.

Do you have any advice for getting through those first few weeks of breastfeeding?
> They just have to be matiyaga. And not to be afraid to ask questions about breastfeeding. It will also help if they have a support group to run to if sometimes it gets frustrating and the internet is a great tool to do some research about it.

Was there any stress between you and your husband over the baby?
> Very few times and not because of hubby not helping you out. Mostly because of all the stress that I get irritated over little things so easily. But we ironed them out right away para di na dumagdag pa.

ok, i have to cut this short because my baby is crying already. part 2 to follow...

i've been diagnosed with.....

i went shopping last friday...for some new spring outfits and a lot of stuff for scrapping ;o) it was such a bliss because i was by myself. igi was left with the sitter while dell busied himself at barnes and noble while waiting for me.

then at 4am (saturday)...i woke up because my arms and legs were hurting. it was similar to RLS because i couldn't keep my legs still. i woke dell up to ask him to give me a massage. and then he goes...."i think you have "shoppingitis and scrapbookitis!"

hahahahaha.....AYOS!

weekend @ big bear lake

we spent our weekend (with some friends) at big bear lake. as usual, a change of atmosphere is always a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. hey, even SAHMs deserve a break from it once in a while. anyways, it's only 1 hour and 45 minutes away (if you follow the directions from yahoo map to a T) but we decided to leave early so that dell and gabee can snowboard in the afternoon. it was a smooth drive until we got to the zigzag part. i got dizzy and i think i almost finished a pack of gum just to keep me from throwing up. ugh! i hated the feeling. finally after 14 miles of zigzag road, we reached the lake. unfortunately, there was a detour so it was another 10 mile drive since we have to take the other side of the lake and check in time for the cabin we rented is 3pm. we headed to bear mountain so the mag-ama can snowboard. off they go after almost half an hour of getting ready (change clothes, wear boots, and what-have-you) while inigo and i stayed in the car since it was cold and besides he was sleepy. they got back at 4 pm and we headed to the cabin.

good thing that dette and rea (they got to the cabin earlier) prepared the stuff for our dinner that evening so all i had to do was make timpla the food. but since all of us were a little pooped, we took a nap and all woke up at 11pm, ate, cleaned up and went back to sleep. but i had to stay awake because i had to wait up for our other friends who unfortunately got lost on their way up (blame that d%mn detour).

SATURDAY

breakfast was served at 8am (lovingly prepared by dette and rea) and by 845am the snowboarders were off to bear mountain again while the rest stayed in the cabin to nap. we decided to go out at 330pm to meet up but on the way, we dropped michelle and puujee off to alpine snow for some night snow tubing while noel, inigo and i headed to bear mountain to meet up with the rest. but since they were all dead tired from snowboarding all day, they headed home and only noel, inigo, gabee and i went back to alpine snow. inigo and i didn't snow tubed, we just hang out for a while but it was getting too cold for us so we headed back to the car and waited for dell to come back for us with inigo's snow outfit. he came back 30 minutes after and watched our friends for a while and took some pictures but it was already dark so di na makita ung snow.

since it was getting cold na talaga, the 3 of us headed back to the cabin since i have to prepare pa our dinner.....fresh water shrimps in garlic butter sauce and steamed bokchoy. hay...good thing they enjoyed the dinner. and after that, we were supposed to play some games but we decided to just go to sleep since check out time was 11am. i think we were in lalaland by 12mn.

SUNDAY

breakfast was served at 8am (by dette and rea again) and then we started packing. after cleaning up the place (lucky cleaning lady, she didn't have to clean anything anymore!!!), we started our drive back home to avoid traffic plus we had to go to william's (dell's nephew) 1st birthday party at pacific palisades. and as expected...i got dizzy again! argh!!! but still lucky enough not to throw up...

the downside...i had migraine for 2 days from that weekend trip... ;o(
